Palm Springs 2 NYC: Non-stop jets on Virgin America!

Virgin America Airlines announces new NON-STOP jet service between New York City (JFK) and Palm Springs, California (PSP). The nonstop JFK-Palm Springs service will begin Dec. 22 and operate only on Saturdays during the winter season. But it’s significant for Virgin America as it’s only the second route for the airline that doesn’t involve its main bases of San Francisco and Los Angeles. New York JFK-Las Vegas is the other.

“Since entering these Palm Springs markets, we’ve seen strong demand for our unique flight service,” says John MacLeod, senior vice president of Planning and Sales at Virgin America. ”We’re pleased to be expanding in the market and offering a new nonstop option for travelers coming from New York to the desert this winter.”

“Virgin America’s upscale flight service is a perfect match for travelers visiting our region, and we’re pleased to see the airline spread its wings and expand here,” Palm Springs’ Mayor, Steve Pougnet, said. ”The new JFK service will be the only nonstop flight to the Northeast from PSP. Virgin America’s decision to grow its presence here is a testament to the appeal of our region as a global destination and the strength of our local tourism economy.”

According to Virgin America’s website, Flight 55 will depart JFK at 10:55am and arrive PSP at 2:00pm. The return, Flight 56, departs PSP at 2:55pm and arrives JFK at 10:45pm.

During season, airlines add many non-stop flights into PSP. Prior to Virgin America’s announcement, the furthest non-stop east was Chicago O’Hare via American or United and a non-stop to Toronto on West Jet.

Good News for New Home Buyers – Builder Confidence on the Rise

If you’re buying a real estate in the desert, you are not alone!

The housing market in the Palm Springs and Coachella Valley areas is strongly rebounding. At this time, there are 396 residential units actively for sale in Palm Springs (between the price points of $49,000 and $2,400,000) and there are 335 residential units in escrow. For the first time in years, the numbers indicate a “normal” marketplace.

According to the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI), September marks the highest level for builder confidence for newly built, single-family homes since June of 2006. This is yet another signal pointing to a stronger housing market!

The Housing Market Index (HMI) has been slowly inching upward over the last few months and actually rose three more points in September, resulting in consecutive gains over the last five months, and an HMI of 40.

According to the builders surveyed (based on 445 respondents), buyer confidence, current sales conditions, prospective sales prospects, and prospective buyers all saw an increase this month, indicating that buyers are interested in looking at new homes throughout the United States. A nine point increase was noted in the Northeast, while the Midwest and South each illustrated a four point gain. A five point gain was seen in the West.

Whole Foods comes to the Palm Springs area!!!

Whole Foods Market has confirmed it is opening a store in Town Center shopping center in Palm Desert, just a few miles south of Palm Springs. The store will take over the Best Buy building. “We’re thrilled they’re (Whole Foods) coming to the desert,” said Ruth Ann Moore, economic development manager for the city of Palm Desert. “I expect this will make for a very successful shopping center there,” she said, adding that Town Center will be undergoing renovation and expansion with more announcements of stores to come. “We are excited to open a store in Palm Desert,” said Ashley Gibbons, associate marketing coordinator for the the natural and organic food store’s Southern Pacific Region.

For many years, the people of Palm Springs and Palm Desert (and the rest of the Coachella Valley) have all wondered why we didn’t have a Whole Foods. The three top “high-end” grocers here are Bristol Farms, Jensen’s and Trader Joes. In my humble opinion, none of them compare to the quality, freshness and diversity of the Whole Foods product!

I’m thrilled to have a Whole Foods near Palm Springs. For one, their chicken Sonoma salad is the ultimate.
